SKATE

Some of you previously participated in the SKATE (Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education) program that MN Hockey now endorses and encourages associations to take part in.
Purpose S.K.A.T.E. was established to encourage, support and reward youth hockey players who commit themselves to their schoolwork while enjoying the sport of hockey.
Goals It is the goal of the Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education (S.K.A.T.E.) program to significantly increase awareness among youth hockey players that performance in the classroom is more important in life than performance on the ice. It is also a stated goal of S.K.A.T.E. to generate a lasting, measurable impact on higher achievement in the classroom.
Frequently Asked Questions In an attempt to eliminate additional paper work, this year the BBL SKATE program will run on the honor system.
What does that mean?
- Your parent/guardian should simply give your GPA, (print grade qualification form here), (each quarter/semester) to the BBL coordinator, Wendy Green, either by phone (763) 763-263-0278 or email by using the "Contact" in the upper right corner of the site. Please indicate in the message that your questions is regarding the SKATE program.
What do I do?
- Maintain a 3.0 - B or above average during the hockey season.
Who can participate?
- Any skater Squirt level and above.
Is there a deadline?
- February 15, 2005 (or there about).
For each semester that you qualify, your name will be thrown into a drawing within our association and once within the MN S.K.A.T.E. program. There will be a S.K.A.T.E. rally at the end of the season to celebrate those who qualify with chances to win one or more prizes! All S.K.A.T.E. qualifiers will receive personalized S.K.A.T.E. bag tags (instead of the patches that were distributed previously)! How can parents help?
- Most importantly, keep reminding players about the importance of school and how S.K.A.T.E. will recognize their performance. Teach them that the sport of hockey is not a destination in life, but a vehicle to learn how to better live life.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call or email Wendy Green.
Good luck and have a great season!
