If you are interested in coaching this year, please complete the coaching application and send it in as soon as possible. There are a lot of changes to the CEP program, and we want to make sure that everyone is getting signed up for the certification courses they need.
For a little information on the coaching certification changes that are coming out, the only coaches who DO NOT have to attend on-ice clinics are those who have a Level 3 stick that does not expire at the end of 2011. Regardless of expiration stated on the stickers, all Level 1 and 2 coaching certifications expire this year as part of the change. As we have been told up to this point, coaches will need to complete the following:
- ALL coaches will need to take an on-line module to certify them for the age level they will coach, regardless of CEP Level certification status (note - as we understand it, you will only have to take the age level modules once; they don't expire).
- Coaches will need to move up the CEP ladder (this is as we understand it now - if there are changes/clarifications provided by the D5 Coach-in-Chief after his training, we will send that along):
- If you're a new coach, you will take the Level 1 certification, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach. NOTE #1: Under the CEP changes, you will no longer need to be a Level 3 to coach Bantams - you can be Level 1 or 2 as long as you've completed the Bantam level module. NOTE #2: The Level 1 certification is only good for one year, and you will have to take Level 2 before coaching in subsequent years. Level 1 certification cannot be renewed - you must move on to Level 2 to continue coaching.
- If you have a current or expiring Level 1 certification, you will need to take a Level 2 certification course, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach. NOTE: The Level 2 certification is only good for one year, and you will have to take Level 3 before coaching in subsequent years. Level 2 certification cannot be renewed - you must move on to Level 3 to continue coaching.
- If you have a current or expiring Level 2 certification, you will need to take a Level 3 certification course, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach. NOTE: The Level 3 certification is good for two years, and may be renewed through on online course twice, for a maximum of six years at Level 3. Once the renewals have been used, you will need to take a Level 4 certification course to continue coaching.
- If you have a currrent Level 3 certification, at a minimum, you will need to take the online module(s) for the level(s) you will be coaching. See note for Item 3 above about Level 3 renewals and expiration. Next year, you will need to either renew your Level 3, or move up to Level 4.
- If you have an expiring Level 3, you will need to either renew your Level 3 or attend a Level 4, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach. See note for Item 3 above about Level 3 renewals and expiration.
- If you have a Level 4, you will need to take the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach.
If you don't have the proper certification and modules completed before games start for your level, you will not be allowed on the bench for games. The coaching cards are going away - the entire system is going electronic. If you're not up-to-date in the system, our registrar cannot put you on the team roster - rosters are going electronic as well, and coaches without current certification and level modules will not be placed on team rosters.
