Coaching Certification Information

If you are interested in coaching this year, please complete the  coaching application online as soon as possible (go the Registration tab & register; coaching application questions are posted in the registration process).

  1. ALL coaches will need to take an on-line module to certify them for the age level they will coach, regardless of CEP Level certification status (note - as we understand it, you will only have to take the age level modules once; they don't expire).
  2. ALL coaches will need to take the online SAFESPORT module before they will be allowed to be on the ice.  This module is to be completed every two years (a refresher module will be taken after the first initial).
  3. Background Screening must be complete & cleared before they will be allowed on the ice.  Screening is good for 2 years.
  4. Coaches will need to move up the CEP ladder each year as levels are only good for 1 year unless they are a level 3 which those are good for 2 years .
    1. If you're a new coach, you will take the Level 1 certification, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach.  NOTE #1: Under the CEP changes, you will no longer need to be a Level 3 to coach Bantams - you can be Level 1 or 2 as long as you've completed the Bantam level module.  NOTE #2:  The Level 1 certification is only good for one year, and you will have to take Level 2 before coaching in subsequent years.  Level 1 certification cannot be renewed - you must move on to Level 2 to continue coaching.
    2. If you have a current or expiring Level 1 certification, you will need to take a Level 2 certification course, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach.  NOTE: The Level 2 certification is only good for one year, and you will have to take Level 3 before coaching in subsequent years.  Level 2 certification cannot be renewed - you must move on to Level 3 to continue coaching.
    3. If you have a current or expiring Level 2 certification, you will need to take a Level 3 certification course, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach.  NOTE: The Level 3 certification is good for two years, and may be renewed through on online course twice, for a maximum of six years at Level 3.  Once the renewals have been used, you will need to take a Level 4 certification course to continue coaching.
    4. If you have a current Level 3 certification, at a minimum, you will need to take the online module(s) for the level(s) you will be coaching.  See note for Item 3 above about Level 3 renewals and expiration.  Next year, you will need to either renew your Level 3, or move up to Level 4.
    5. If you have an expiring Level 3, you will need to either renew your Level 3 or attend a Level 4, plus the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach.  See note for Item 3 above about Level 3 renewals and expiration.
    6. If you have a Level 4, you will need to take the online module(s) for the level(s) you will coach.
The following paperwork needs to be complete or you will not be allowed to interact with the team on or off the ice as a coach:
SafeSport
Background screening complete/cleared
Completed Certification and Modules for your age group
MN Concussion Form & Certificate
The coaching cards are going away - the entire system is going electronic.  If you're not up-to-date in the system, our registrar cannot put you on the team roster - rosters are going electronic as well, and coaches without current certification and level modules will not be placed on team rosters.

If you have any further questions on coaching this year, please contact Mike Reasoner   Thank you.
