The Becker Big Lake Ice Association (BBLIA) is an organization that was established in 1998 to serve as a financing agent for the individual ice accounts. When BBLYHA applied for and received a charitable gambling license, the Association was immediately subject to a 10% tax on all raffle proceeds paid to the State of Minnesota. Also, BBLYHA could, but with great difficulty, receive gifts from other nonprofit organizations. In order to have a nonprofit organization able to raise funds free of state tax and also receive gifts from other nonprofit organizations, BBLYHA established a second organization, BBLIA. BBLIA has four (4) elected positions:
A large portion of what affects you individually in your ice costs and fundraising is handled by BBLIA and is covered in detail at the combined BBLYHA/BBLIA monthly meetings. These meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm in the old library of the Becker High School, Becker, Minnesota. Meeting minutes are included in the monthly association newsletter, which can be found on the association website. Information regarding fundraising will also appear in the newsletter--read these items to keep informed on ways you can cut your ice costs. |
